Beautiful bodies

The cemetery of Recoleta is where Eva Peron is buried as well as a whole number of important Argentines – politicians, generals etc. Now it’s full. If you die and you’re a big figure in Argentina, then too bad these days.
We walked there – another whole huge part of the city not yet discovered. Honestly – more huge avenues and junctions and parks. The cemetery is in a posh district and it’s an impressive place – lines of tall cedar trees and massive marble mausoleums with whole families buried there. Our guide told us that the biggest tombs have a staircase from the first floor down into the basement where the bodies lie. We could see them (the staircases, descending into the dark) through the windows and doors. Somehow I found this very spooky indeed.
